The Process
In May 2025, MemoMate’s founder, Raphael Rubens, was invited by Brad Edmunds, VP of Health Services and Philippe Michelin, COO, to host a webinar on AI and biography writing for residents of Westminster Village. The aim was to introduce AI in a simple, engaging way—breaking the ice by showing attendees that they already use AI in daily life, often without realizing it.
The Challenge
MemoMate’s research shows that around 40% of older adults want to preserve their life story, but many never begin. The main barriers are:
-Uncertainty about how to structure their story
-Difficulty knowing where to start
-Belief that their life “isn’t interesting enough
Objective
The objective was to empower residents to document their life stories—without needing to write a single word themselves. MemoMate guided each resident through seven phone calls, with each call focused on a different stage of their life.
Key Results
- Completion rate
- 86% of participants completed all seven phone calls
- 14% of participants completed at least three calls, but chose to stop once they felt they had shared what mattered most.
- Engagement metrics:
- Average call duration: 31 minutes
- Longest call: 1.5 hours
- Average total time to complete biography: 2.4 hours
What’s Next?
This pilot showed that older adults—even those who don’t consider themselves tech-savvy—can comfortably engage with AI when the process and privacy safeguards are clearly explained.
Following this success, Westminster Village and MemoMate are exploring how the technology could be expanded to serve as an AI assistant—helping residents submit work orders, get answers to questions, and more.
